Some people may choose nature fertility approach instead of IUI/IVF because of its high cost and heavy medication. That is fine as long as both husband and wife have fair reproductive function. With help of acupuncture and Chinese herbs, it is possible to increase their chance of pregnancy within a reasonable time.
For these kind of couples, during the early stage of treatment, we would recommend them to see their OBGyn and urologist for examination including Blood work, Ultrasound, HSG and sperm test. If there is no structure problem which prevents egg or sperm passage or embryo implantation, we would then start acupuncture and Chinese herbs treatment. We would give a time frame of 3 months to 6 months for evaluation. During the time, patient has acupuncture once or twice a week, take Chinese herbs and try nature ttc.
The treatment is affordable and holistic to address the over health conditions. Once the quality of egg and sperm improves and internal environment is suitable to the embryo development, there would be more chance or probability for a sustainable pregnancy.
Recently I had a patient whose husband came for back pain. Originally fertility doctor said his sperm quality is fine even though the test result is marginal. I saw him. He had not just back pain, but also stress and anxiety. He could not sleep more than six hours each day. So I treated him for there months with acupuncture and herbs. After three month, patient got pregnant.
People might think three months is quite long time. However, nature fertility approach is not limited to three month, the effect can last longer two or three month more. Also, IVF or IUI cycle time is not short at all. It normally needs two or there months for preparation and stimulation.
In these senses, we feel nature fertility approach still is a good option for patients at their 30’s.
