About Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the insertion of thin needles into skin for therapeutic purpose.

Acupuncture is one of the oldest forms of healing in the world, beginning in China thousands of years ago. It remains the primary source of treatment in Asia and it use spread throughout ancient Egypt, the Middle East, the Roman Empire and later into Western Europe as merchants and missionaries to China told of the amazing discoveries the people of the Orient had developed. Acupuncture did not become known on a national level in the U.S. until 1971 when diplomatic relations between China and America were relaxed.  Acupuncture has rapidly become an accepted treatment alternative in America. Traditional acupuncture is very abroad based on the Yellow Emperor Classic written 2000 years ago. Modern acupuncture(1930 and after) includes meridian diagnosis/treatment part of traditional acupuncture and development based on modern discoveries of human body in China. The medical acupuncture or dry needling is part of acupuncture and practiced by most of acupuncturists educated in China. Even though in some states, they are practiced by other professionals, for patients, safety, training and experience are important to know.
