“I received acupuncture from you in 2019 while trying to conceive. I have a healthy baby boy who is about to turn one this month. He’s doing great.
I’m 40 and the doctors gave me the ok to start trying to conceive again once my son turns one. I’m still breastfeeding my son and hope to continue to do so, especially to provide some COVID antibodies to my son through breast milk. I had a light period in April but haven’t had one since then (and I am not pregnant).
What do you recommend to start to get regular menstruation back and my body ready to conceive again while still breastfeeding my son? In 2019 I was taking herbs that you recommended as well, but as I am still breastfeeding, would any of those herbs be contraindicated?”
Traditional thought is the nursing served as one form of birth control, referred to in many places as the Lactation Amenorrhea Method (LAM) of contraception. That is not totally true. At some situation, ovulation can happen and if conditions are met, pregnancy can happen.
New mom sometimes has dilemma between choosing nursing a young kid and preparing to have another baby due to her age or worrying her diminishing ovarian reserve. For this lady, we told her that her pregnancy can still happen. So we decided to give a try of three months acupuncture.
So we gave her fertility acupuncture while putting in consideration of strengthening her milk production or stomach/spleen meridians. The result is she got pregnant after one month of acupuncture.
