Infertility with high FSH and low AMH usually indicate lower ovarian reserve. Patient who are tested and diagnosed with Low Ovarian Reserve (LOR) normally is referred to fertility clinic for IUI and IVF treatment. However, even with IUI/IVF, there are still quite a percentage of patients cannot conceive, with unknown/unexplained reason, or just called LOR related fertility issues. Trying acupuncture and Chinese herbs might give this kinds of patients a new hope.
Sarah, age 37, as one of the LOR patients, came to visit our fertility clinic weeks ago.
Her records show in 2016 she was pregnant through nature try-to-conceive. However, at week five, she was found miscarriage. After 2016, she could not get pregnant through nature means. Her Blood Test in July 2017, FSH 22, AMH 0.2 and in early of 2018, FSH= 16.92,AFC=5. Her gynecologist referred her to Shady Grove Fertility Center.
At Shady Grove Center, she was on IVF Micro Lupron Flare protocol, doctor retrieved one egg. The one egg was fertilized and transferred into her. However, her two week test was negative. Doctors in Shady Grove Fertility Center advised option of donor egg which costs around $40k.
The patient therefore seek second opinion at another nearby IVF clinic. Doctor therefore recommended with another new protocol. Patient came to our clinic wishing we can enhance her egg quality and quantity. Her menstrual cycle 13 5/26. Husband sperm test was normal except slightly low morphology.
We started treating her once a week. During week, she drank herbs we formulated for her. After one month of treatment, she had more energy, sleep well and did not feel back pain any more. Her pregnancy test show positive. She got confirmation from her fertility center.
We then switched our treatment into preserving her pregnancy and helping baby grow. She has previous miscarriage history, so she wants to continue treatment until she reaches her first trimester.
